Introduction
A quick hi to kick off.
What?
A quick run down of things I’m going to be posting, sharing and working through. In no particular order:
- Physics and maths relating to acoustics and DSP. I’m a professional with a BSc. (Extended Physics), so roughly that level. I’m also an educator, so my goal is always to communicate effectively to a broad range of skill levels to teach you something.
- Programming, as applied to acoustics. Coding and running simulations, models, tools etc to solve interesting problems. I’m no software engineer, but I can hold my own. Probably mostly Python (for getting stuff done and libraries!), MATLAB (for academic nostalgia, functional tools and indexes starting at 1), also hopefully dabbling in C, C#, C++ and Swift.
- Architectural Acoustics & Acoustic Design. An area I want to get more practical experience in. I thought a cool idea would be to do venue reviews with an acoustical performance and design viewpoint.
- General discussion and acoustics news.
Why?
I’ve been working with many of these concepts in various capacities, and I thought sharing some of the methodology and reasoning behind them would be valuable. It’s super interesting to me, so I hope to spark some interest in this particular area of physics, and provide some education around a range of technical areas.
Who?
Me, Jonathan South. See here for more info. Potentially some collaborators. Maybe you, if you’re interested and have something in mind. Drop me a line.
When?
Hopefully something once every week or couple of weeks, but no promises. This whole thing is to mostly keep myself progressing, and maybe teach some things along the way.
Enjoy!
